Aspirin Side Effect

Many people take aspirin without a second thought.  Most assume that it is safe and have no qualms about using it when they experience pain.   Aspirin is used commonly for things such as headaches and to decrease pain brought on by injuries.  There are aspirin side effects however, which individuals should be aware of.

Common ones include upset stomach, heartburn and nausea.  Other serious aspirin side effects include bloody or black stools, diarrhea, hearing loss, rash, hives, trouble breathing, chest tightening, swelling of the tongue, mouth, lips or face, ringing of the ears, severe stomach pain, vomiting, bruising and drowsiness. If a person experiences any of these after taking aspirin they need to contact a medical professional right away.  A doctor will be able to determine if a problem exists and then treat it if it does.

Aspirin is taken quite regularly for a number of ailments. When many people have any type of pain, they often times take aspirin. Because of this, and perhaps because of the lack of a clear warning regarding the potential aspirin side effects, many people are unaware of the potential dangers. However, they do exist, very serious ones in fact. Taking too much aspirin or using it over a long period of time can result in liver toxicity and failure which can lead to death.

There are also risks associated with short term aspirin use. Individuals may have an allergic reaction.  A bad allergic reaction can cause various symptoms and lead to death. Symptoms may include swelling of the tongue, face, lips and mouth. When and if these occur, it is very important that individuals get help as soon as possible. This may require a trip to the emergency room.
