There are many known benefits to taking this fish oil supplements. However, there are also fish oil side effects that individuals who take them should be informed of. That is exactly what we will be discussing below.

If an individual takes a great deal of fish oil, there is the risk that they may have problems including increased bleeding. This may result in all nosebleeds, blood in the urine and even stroke. When taken in large doses, it may also lower a person’s platelet aggregation. This makes it harder for the blood to clot and thus individuals will bleed longer than normal.

Another possible fish oil side effect has to do with poisoning from various pollutants including metals and dioxins. These may be present in fish and thus human beings end up consuming them through fish oil.  However, this is more of a concern for individuals who get fish oil directly from actually eating fish. This typically is not so much of a problem for those who take fish oil supplements.

Another side effect may include diarrhea. This may be experienced by individuals who take high doses of it. Heartburn, burping, indigestion, bloating and stomach pain are other fish oil side effects.  A more serious one is lowered blood pressure. Individuals who are already taking medication to their lower their blood pressure may find that combining this and fish oil to be dangerous.  Another serious fish oil side effect is an increase in bad cholesterol, which can lead to heart disease.

Fish oil has many very good benefits and can have a very good effect on a person’s health. However, there are also side effects which shouldn’t be ignored.
